Best lakes in the Park Rapids Area part 2!
Best Lakes in the Park Rapids Area – Part 2
If you’ve already dipped your toes into the first round of Park Rapids’ incredible lakes, you know we’re pretty spoiled up here. But the fun doesn’t stop with just a handful — the area is packed with even more beautiful lakes worth exploring. So, whether you’re looking for a peaceful paddle, great fishing, or a swim spot with a sunset view, here are a few more local gems to add to your summer lake list.
Big Sand Lake
Let’s kick things off with a favorite. Big Sand Lake lives up to its name. It’s large, super clear, and surrounded by a mix of cozy cabins and pine-lined shores. It’s perfect for boating or floating the day away. The public access makes it easy to launch a kayak or paddleboard, and the clarity of the water makes it a real treat for swimming.
Long Lake
A local classic that’s ideal for both recreation and relaxing. Long Lake stretches out just south of town and offers a long, scenic shoreline (makes sense, right?). It’s great for tubing and skiing, but also calm enough in the mornings for a peaceful paddle or some early fishing. Bonus: the sunrises and sunsets here are next level.
Potato Lake
Don’t let the name throw you off—Potato Lake is as fun as it sounds. It’s one of the larger lakes in the area, and it’s a hotspot for fishing, especially for walleye and panfish. There are a few small bays and channels that make it fun to explore by boat. If you’re up for a cabin weekend or a little resort getaway, this lake has plenty of options.
Belle Taine Lake
Just a short drive from Park Rapids near Nevis, Belle Taine is a stunner. It’s known for its sandy bottom, crystal-clear water, and great swimming spots. Locals love to spend the day here soaking up the sun, and the lake is also dotted with cabins and a few low-key resorts that make it a great spot to spend a few days.
Fish Hook Lake (continued love!)
We already mentioned this one in Part 1, but it deserves another shoutout. Located right on the edge of town, it’s one of the most accessible lakes in the area. It’s great for boating, fishing, and just enjoying the view, especially if you’re staying close to town and want a quick lake fix.
A Few Tips Before You Go
-
Sunrise or sunset? Try both! Mornings are peaceful, and evenings often light up the sky in a way only northern Minnesota can.
-
Boat rentals: If you don’t have your own, several area resorts and outfitters offer rentals for pontoons, kayaks, and more.
-
Stay a while: Many of these lakes have nearby cabins, resorts, or campgrounds perfect for making a whole weekend of it.
No matter which lake you choose, you’re bound to find that signature Park Rapids magic, a mix of peaceful woods, sparkling water, and those "Up North" vibes that make summer feel just right.
